Awards at Tri-State
Each year at the Tri-State CAMP Conference, we celebrate the accomplishments and contributions individuals have made to our industry by honoring them with the Thelma Hurwitz Tri-State Conference Leadership Award and the Legends of Camping Award. Awards are presented during our general sessions on Tuesday and Thursday of the conference.

The 2025 Award winners are...
Thelma Hurwitz Tri-State Conference Leadership Award
This award is named in honor and memory of Thelma Hurwitz, a leader in ACA, NY and NJ and one of the founders of the Tri-State CAMP Conference along with Morry Stein and Ben Appelbaum. Thelma was a glass ceiling breaker in many respects including establishing herself as a successful multi-camp female private resident camp director in the 1960s. She had many characteristics that elevated her to the highest acclaim in the camp industry such as her willingness to serve, take charge if needed and make everyone feel important along the way. This award celebrates those who have taken a lasting leadership role in ACA, NY and NJ as well as showing exceptional work on behalf of ACA, NY and NJ, the Tri-State CAMP Conference, or the industry as a whole.
Legends of Camping Award
The Legends of Camping Award is a lifetime achievement award that is given to one or more camp professionals based on their life’s work in the field of organized camping. This includes sharing with peers, mentoring both those in and outside of their organizations, service to the camp profession and inspirational leadership in the advancement of camping.
